Here goes. Wish me luck.

Doodle of the Day (beta 2)

Doodle of the Day (beta 1)

These are old digital line drawings of mine that I’m using to test this exciting new method of displaying artwork.

technorati chokes and gags

“No trees were harmed in the making of this drawing. The Doodle of the Day is totally digital. It was drawn using a Wacom tablet and pen, with software like Corel Painter. The only part of the process that isn’t digital is me.”

Quoted above is my description of the silly-blog-dot-net domain’s shiny new front page.

I tried to enter the description into a form while logged on at Technorati. Technorati ate it and died. I’ll have to try again there later. Mustn’t forget those all-important tags.

“Charter Communications in Los Angeles says it’s going to sell information it collects about the viewing preferences of the cable TV customers it takes money from. Here we go again. Copyright your life.” – Harry Shearer on Le Show, March 16, 2008

Charter provides both my cable television and high speed internet. I pay an obscene amount of money for the privilege.

So… Charter has been spying on my DVR box to sell info about my viewing habits. Maybe I should get rid of the DVR box. Maybe I should install a digital TV converter. I can get a $40 coupon from the U.S. government. Maybe I should shop for a DSL provider.

WTF… I’ll share my TV viewing habits with the entire world. Or the dozen or so souls who give a crap. Why not?

Right now. Here goes.

1. BBC World (PBS)
2. CNN American Morning
3. Early Today (Live on MSNBC)
4. CBS Up to the Minute
5. KTLA News at Ten (Local)

I actually bothered to schedule the DVR to record CNN International’s Your World Today every weekday. But lately it has been preempted by hour-long reports for consumers about the U.S. economy.

The overall quality of CNN’s programming continues to deteriorate. Their management seems to be headed towards an idiocracy demographic.

Weather and Sports.

1. The Weather Channel
2. ESPN SportsCenter

The highlights of the day on SportsCenter are ideal for those of us with a short attention span.

The Weather Channel is unsurpassed in their live coverage of hurricanes.

1. Cartoon Network Adult Swim
2. Countdown with Keith Olbermann
3. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart
4. Late Night with Conan O’Brien
5. Real Time with Bill Maher

The only TV series that I’ve watched regularly in the past six years is Curb Your Enthusiasm on HBO.

sci-fi cons

Filed under: Doodling — TCA @ 6:06 pm

Eastercon 2008 looks like a good one. It will be held March 21-24 at the Radisson Edwardian Hotel near London’s Heathrow Airport.

Guests of Honor
Neil Gaiman
Tanith Lee
China Mieville
Charles Stross

Charlie Stross says it’s on!

Tim Powers will be writer guest of honor at Baycon 2008 near San Jose, California. This convention will be held at the Santa Clara Hyatt Regency hotel May 23-26.

Looking far ahead… WorldCon 2009 will be held August 6-10 in Montreal.

Neil Gaiman – Guest of Honor
Elisabeth Vonarburg – French-speaking Guest of Honor
David Hartwell – Editor Guest of Honor
Tom Doherty – Publisher Guest of Honor
Julie Czerneda – Master of Ceremonies

The U.S. dollar has shrunk noticeably since the early membership rates for WorldCon 2009 were published on September 27. Back then, less than six weeks ago, early membership cost 150 USD and 165 CAD. Today those rates would be reversed.

WELL Chili Cookoff

Filed under: Doodling — TCA @ 3:33 pm

Here’s a Flickr slide show of pictures that I took at the 2007 WELL Chili Cookoff. It was held on September 28 at the Berkeley Yacht Club.

And here are some other pictures of my trip taken in Pacific Grove (near Monterey) and Cambria.
