put on your black evening gown

Put down the bullhorn, Jane Fonda. Stop firing off misspelled memos to your member of Congress, Barbra Streisand.

There’s no need for celebrities to stand shoulder to shoulder at the barricades anymore. Two thirds of the citizens of North Carolina oppose the war. At long last, the American Middle Class is hip to the Dubster’s jive.

Stars should play their strong suit. In Hollywood. Where they exude a powerful magnetism. Go home and raise money for the cause. Yes, I mean you, Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn and Danny Glover. Network with the wealthy and powerful.

There was a knowing concern for yet another generation of young military veterans who had served in a controversial war with parallels to Vietnam.

“Our government is actually scaling back on services that are critical for men and women trying to reenter civilian society,” Sarandon told the crowd.

See what I mean?
